Why you Might Feel Worse on a Health Protocol

If you’ve ever tried taking something holistic to target your health issue and felt worse, it’s not necessarily because it was wrong for you. Rather, you may have felt worse because your body needed some overall support it wasn’t getting at the time.

Of course, there can be a number of reasons you don’t respond well to something you take for your health. But there’s actually a name for having a bad response to something you’re trying to use to heal. It’s called a Herxheimer response or “healing reaction”. It was named after a doctor who discovered a negative response in patients given medication to treat certain infections, particularly, syphilis. The response is well- known for other spirochetes (spiral or corkscrew- shaped bacteria) like Lyme disease- causing borrelia burgdorferi. It’s basically an inflammatory, even potentially dangerous response that you might describe as the bacteria “fighting back” prior to succumbing to treatment.

Modern medicine has found interventions to help minimize this syndrome, like corticosteroids which have shown to help with inflammatory symptoms.

People can suffer on a protocol meant to get to the root cause in a similar way. For instance, someone dealing with parasites can potentially experience particularly unpleasant effects if they don’t support their body like they need to when trying to get rid of them to feel better.

Parasites can “put up a fight” in their own way, releasing toxins that make a person feel worse than they did before starting treatment. This is why it’s very important to support the entire body and the unique person. Not only do the microbes need to be combatted, but elimination organs need specific nutritional support to get rid of “die off” quickly and keep what’s released from unnecessarily circulating. Importantly, each person responds differently to a specific substance or combination.

This is where biofeedback can shed light to find out what the unique person needs.

I have a question for you. If you could have a private conversation with me, what two questions would you like to ask me? Simply comment to ask, or you can email me at paigeforwellness@paigeforwellness.com

What two questions would you like to ask me? What do you need help with? I won’t always be able to answer them individually, but I will try to answer them in future content.
