More Questions Answered: GI Cleansing, Weight Maintenance, and What’s Helped my Health Most of All?

I wanted to make sure to answer the questions that required more specific answers without leaving any stone unturned. Here they are:

If you haven’t watched the Root Cause Masterclass webinar yet, I applied a framework I’ll be referring to when confronting any health issue. So when I mention the 5 pillars and the 4 steps, that’s what I’m referring to.

Question: Should we be GI cleansing yearly?

Answer: Colon health is important, and honestly one of the biggest impacts on overall health can actually be parasites, so I would be cleansing in that sense (more often than yearly, ideally, in fact). Parasites can directly affect digestion and your ability to eliminate, I find. Aside from that, it is important to ensure you’re colon is functioning optimally one way or another. That doesn’t necessarily mean you have to use things like laxatives (senna, for example).

However, if you find you’re not having at least 1-3 bowel movements per day where you’re fully evacuating then it is time to ensure that you’re supporting that function. This would mean using things like Vitamin C or magnesium to support your body to do what it’s supposed to do. You’ll also find that if your metabolism is supported enough, you can rely much more on those regular bowel movements. And that is the goal overall is supporting the 5 basic foundations of nutrition as one so you don’t have to do the at- times unpleasant or even potentially sometimes detrimental interventions that can go wrong (especially when not tailored to the person, using steps like assessing their own biofeedback and unique symptoms).

Question: What has benefitted your health the most?

Answer: That’s actually a really hard one for me. It’d have to be between when I just began implementing *any* health measures, which at first for me meant including a green smoothie a day. It seemed like it made a difference in my skin, energy and how I felt overall. It made me passionate about how nutrition can be beneficial. That actually ties for first place with increasing my metabolism. Once I got really into health after discovering things like eating more fruits and veggies, I went really far with it to the point of having excessive food rules.

Eventually, I learned to become *less* stringent with what I was eating (you could say I had developed orthorexic tendencies).

So when I implemented metabolic support by eating more, as my body temperature increased (reflecting my metabolism healing) I felt better than I had in years. A lot of my symptoms of long- covid improved, for instance. So, it’s really a toss- up. Thanks for the question! Again, it’s important to point out how it highlights the importance of the foundations I use in the framework, both nutrition and metabolism.

Question: How to maintain?

Answer: I’m glad you asked! Maintaining in a healthy way is more than limiting yourself to a specific number a calorie calculator gave you. You can use the feedback from your body to help guide you. This is because for some people who have dieted and restricted, they only stay weight- stable on a very low calorie count. So you can use one of the 4 steps to help you maintain healthily by examining your symptoms: Do you get cold hands and feet often? If so, you may be one of those people with a lower metabolism and need to address that nutrition foundation by very slowly increasing your calorie intake (I’m talking even 50 cals a week) and using biofeedback (taking your body temp) until it reaches an optimal level of at least 97.8 F. That will bring you to a place where you can maintain and support your body holistically.
