Golden milk is well known for being a highly medicinal and anti-inflammatory beverage. It features a component called Curcumin. This is the active ingredient in Turmeric and has shown in numerous studies to have benefits for inflammation, brain protection, detoxification and the nervous system. Interestingly, India is the Country with highest Turmeric in the world, so much so that their brains even have been dyed orange from the herb! These inhabitants of India also have the lowest occurrences of dementia and alzheimers as well! If that doesn’t speak for turmeric’s exceptional protective properties then I don’t know what does. Still, if that doesn’t seem like enough, turmeric has also shown to be as effective as prozac for depression. This is likely due to it’s unique ability to decrease inflammation and help with liver and gall bladder detoxification.
Here’s how to make it:
Ingredients:
4oz hot, filtered water
6- 8 oz milk, either raw, organic and grass fed cow, goat or sheep milk or a nut milk. Nut milk is best homemade. For instance, you can make cashew milk easily by combining 1/4 c cashews with 1 c water and blending for 1 minute or so.
1/2 tsp of ginger, cinnamon, cardamom, nutmeg, or clove
1/2 tsp turmeric, organic. ** Some big box brands of conventional turmeric have actually been found to have large amounts of lead. Organic brands have much stricter standards and additionally have many more benefits, such as not being sprayed with cancerous pesticides or filled with herbicides such as glyphosate.
Splash organic vanilla, if you have it
1 tsp Lucuma or alternative sweetener such as monk fruit, maple syrup or molasses
1tbsp butter and/ or coconut oil for myelin sheath coating and protective fatty acids. The Brain is made up of fats so it is very important to make sure you’re getting plenty of fats each and every day, all throughout the day. Fat also works like kindling on the fire that is your energy level. Fats allow for reduced craving and greater endurance and mental acuity. If you have blood sugar problems, which most people do, it can be helpful to increase your fat macro-nutrient percentage to stabilize your mood as well as well-being. I can personally vouch for the effectiveness for this. Since I’ve started making my coffee and other hot beverages with some coconut oil and organic or grass fed butter, I have had much higher energy levels and been able to go much longer without food as needed.
Directions:
Blend all ingredients in a blender, or with an immersion blender for about 30 seconds and voila, you have an anti-inflammatory, gall-bladder and brain supporting beverage that’s great benefits can last long after the beverage is finished.
